Rabi crop season: wheat cultivated over 2.5 million acres in Gujranwala

About 2.5 million acres of land has been brought under wheat crop during Rabi crop season in Gujranwala division. Agriculture department's official on Saturday said that the process of wheat sowing has been completed in various districts of the division while the Agriculture department has finalised arrangements in the division to achieve the target of wheat crop.

The Agriculture department is extending full assistance and guidance to the wheat growers for attaining better output and enhancing the wheat crop acreage, official added. The department had launched a training programme for wheat growers to create awareness about proportionate use of fertilisers for getting better yield of the crop, techniques of irrigation to the crop. He said that wheat would be cultivated over 0.5 million acres of land in Sialkot district. The tehsil wise break-up of wheat cultivation was as in Daska 116,000 acres, 74,000 acres in Sambrial and 167,000 acres Pasrur.

He further said more than 40,000 farmers of 1,442 villages of Sialkot district had already been imparted training about modern wheat production techniques, utilisation of fertiliser and pesticide aimed at attaining maximum per acre wheat yield in four tehsils of the district.
