Kisan Board Pakistan (KBP) President Sadiq Khan Khakwani has appealed to the Chief Justice Lahore High Court (LHC) to listen to the point of view of farmers' organisations in the case of sugarcane price case. In a statement issued here Friday, he said farmers' organisations would apprise the judiciary that how the present sugarcane prices were not in favour of growers because of hike in the prices of agricultural inputs.
Sadiq Khan Khakwani termed the demand of the sugar millers of reducing sugarcane prices as unjustifiable and alleged that millers were already looting the growers on different pretexts including weighing less or deductions. He also appealed to the Punjab government to include real representatives of sugarcane farmers in the committees constituted for supervision of sugarcane affairs. He alleged that mills manipulate these committees by inducting people of their liking so as to continue exploitation of the farmers. KBP Chief also urged the government to give Cane Procurement Receipt (CPR) status of cheque and order payment of sugarcane within 15 days of sale under cane act.
