Cut in prices of sugarcane by Sindh government unjustified: Bosan

Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Sikandar Hayat Bosan on Friday termed the price reduction decision of sugarcane by the Sindh government as unjustified and arbitrary. The minister said that Punjab government had fixed Rs 180 per 40 kg while Sindh Government had fixed it at Rs 182 per 40 kg but through another notification, the Sindh Government made considerable reduction in the prices which he said is deplorable.

"The new notification of Sindh government's Decision of Interim minimum price of Sugarcane, now fixed at Rs 155 per 40 kilogram for crushing season 2014-15 is unfair, unjust and arbitrary," Bosan said according to press release issued by the Ministry here. Bosan demanded the Sindh government to immediately restore the older notification, having Rs 182 price for per 40 kg of sugarcane.

The Minister also deplored the delay in crushing of sugarcane, as till this date it has not been started. He said that the delay has been increasing the problems of poor farmers as it results in delay in timely payments to them. He said that government would give priority to purchase sugar for export from those mills which start crushing timely and pay farmers within time.-PR
