Pakistan Muslim League-Q senior central leader and former Deputy Prime Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi has said that Kalabagh Dam guarantees for the provision of water, cheap electricity and prosperity for all the four provinces and for the better future of the poor. He said this while addressing a national seminar on Kalabagh Dam held under the auspices of the Pakistan Muslim League-Q. His son Moonis Elahi organized the seminar.
Former Chairman WAPDA Engineer Shamsul Mulk and former Federal Finance Minister Dr Salman Shah, Senator Mendokhel from Balochistan and other leaders said that abandoning Kalabagh Dam was a conspiracy against the Federation.
They said the rulers of the Punjab were also not sincere for its construction, Mian brothers bartered on it for their "kursis" (power) whereas the construction of Kalabagh Dam would eliminate darkness from all the four provinces and end to shortage of water for irrigation besides millions of acres of barren land would be habituated.
Pakistan would become food surplus country and defence budget problem would also be solved.
The seminar was also addressed by Nisar Safdar, Zafar Bakhtarwi, Khaliq Mahmundullah, Abdul Rahim Baloch, Colonel Abdul Razzaq Bugti, Rizwan Mumtaz Ali and Muhammad Suleman Khan.
The first session was presided over by prominent water expert Eng Shamusul Mulk while the second session was chaired by Chaudhry Parvez Elahi.
Besides experts, important personalities from all walks of life were present in the seminar.
Chaudhry Parvez Elahi said that for elimination of poverty-hit areas like Thar could be made green if the project were implemented. All opponents of Kalabagh Dam should be invited with open heart and they should be convinced. Difference of opinion was beauty of democracy but for brighter future of coming generations and mutual differences would have to be eliminated, he added.
With the construction of Kalabagh Dam, electricity now costing Rs 18 per unit would be available at Rs 2.50, we had pushed IMF out of the country but they had brought it again, he asserted.
Kalabagh Dam was not a dam for just one province but it was for the entire Pakistan, Sindh would benefit the most from the dam and then Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Punjab would benefit from it, he observed.
Responding to a question while talking to media persons, Chaudhry Parvez Elahi said that for the construction of Kalabagh Dam an All Parties Conference (APC) could also be convened shortly. In reply to another question, he condemned the N-League firing on PTI rally and said that it was very regretful incident.
