AUSTRALIA - The Australian Egg Corporation
says consumers are happy with its plan to introduce a free range egg standard
of 20,000 hens per hectare.
ABC reports that about 120 free range
egg consumers were shown a video, supplied by the corporation, of a farm
stocked at that rate, which equates to two hens per square metre.
Managing director James Kellaway says participants were asked to rate their satisfaction with the stocking density.
"And what we found was that 83 per cent were satisfied with the conditions that they saw. Only 4 per cent were dissatisfied and what this shows to us is, certainly, seeing is believing."
