BOSTON—The deputy secretary of the U.S.
Department of Agriculture will be visiting Massachusetts to celebrate the first
anniversary of the MyPlate food icon, which was adopted by the agency to
promote healthy nutrition.
Deputy Secretary Kathleen Merrigan will
celebrate the nutrition symbol with students and staff at the Dearborn Middle
School in Roxbury Wednesday morning.
She will also announce upcoming nutrition
events and promotions and highlight her department's efforts to increase access
to healthy food.
Merrigan has Massachusetts ties. She
previously worked as an Assistant Professor and Director of the Agriculture,
Food and Environment graduate program at Tufts University.
