The 2012 annual conference of the NSW
Farmer's Association kicked off this morning in new venue, with a new format
but with plenty of familiar faces.
NSW Minister for Agriculture Katrina Hodgkinson
attended the opening session and commented on a number of the issues that are
up for debate this year.
She says she understands the frustrations of
farmers who are currently going through the consultation on native vegetation
legislation.
"Obviously it's not my portfolio, but I
am watching this with interest.
"It's a process we have to go
through."
The Minister says she does not think that a
push to exempt young farmers from paying stamp duty when buying farms is
practical.
"A similar scheme was set up in
Victoria, but the designated money was quickly expended.
"It's far too expensive; we cannot
afford to do this."
The conference continues tomorrow.
