State agriculture officials are
encouraging Illinois residents to purchase locally produced products and have
unveiled a logo to go with the effort.
Dignitaries gathered Wednesday at The Firefly
Grill in Effingham to announce the "Buy Illinois Challenge" and
introduced an "Illinois Product" logo that will be found on grocery
shelves.
Acting Agriculture Director Robert Flider
says the challenge encourages each household in the state to dedicate $10 of
its grocery budget a week to purchasing Illinois products. Flider says that
would generate more than $2.4 billion annually for the Illinois economy.
The Firefly Grill's owner Kristie Campbell
says she has her own on-site garden and buys local food whenever possible.
