Agricultural theme pulls a crowd to Carroll County 4-H and FFA Fair


Carroll County 4-H and FFA Fair opens this weekend, with events starting Friday, July 27, and continuing through Aug. 4, at the Carroll County Agriculture Center, 700 Agriculture Center Dr., Westminster.
Some of the familiar attractions include racing pigs, the combine demolition derby, Wild West night, lawn mower races, the tractor pull, chain saw carving demonstrations and more.
Highlights for the week include the annual 4-H Parade (July 29, 6 p.m.), the Ms. Carroll County Farm Bureau Contest (July 29, 7 p.m.) and the annual cake auction (Aug. 1, 7 p.m.) which raises money for the fair and for scholarships.
One the fair's signature events, the Combine Demolition Derby, will be held Saturday, July 28, beginning at 6 p.m., and there will also be a Car Demolition Derby on Monday, July 30, 7:30 p.m.


Wild West Night, including barrel racing, a calf scramble (ages 6-12) and Steer Decorating, takes place July 31, 7 p.m.
The week will also feature several concerts, including Billy Harrison and the Haywire Band on July 29, 8 p.m.; Bob Plunkert and Real Country, 7:30 p.m.; Half Serious, July 31, 7 p.m.; Iron Ridge, Aug. 1, 7 p.m.; Salem Bottom Band, Aug. 2, 7:45 p.m.; Richie Fields, Aug. 3, 7 p.m.;Kip Moore, Aug. 4, 8 p.m.
Food concessions are available throughout the fair and include pit beef, turkey, ham, hot dogs, French fries, pizza, ice cream and more.

Friday, July 27
9 a.m. — Tractor Operator Contest and Certification.
9 a.m. — Garden Tractor/Small Engine Contest.
10 a.m. — Fair Beautification exhibits judged.
10 a.m.-3 p.m. — Rabbit exhibits entered.
Noon-5 p.m. — Poultry exhibits entered.
1:30-4 p.m. — Garden Products sheet judging.
2-5 p.m. — Mechanical Arts, Photography and Garden Products exhibits entered and judged.
3-5 p.m. — Clothing, Silk and Dried Floral exhibits entered and judged.
3-6 p.m. — Art Department exhibits entered and judged.
5 p.m. — Tractor Pull (Farm Stock), gates open at 4 p.m.
7 p.m. — Ribbon Cutting and Dedication of Buck Miller Arena.
