Caxito - The governor of the northern Bengo province, João Bernardo de Miranda, said on Tuesday in Caxito that the agriculture and livestock will continue to sustain the economic base of the region's development.
Speaking to Angop, the official argued that the province has a high agricultural potential which only remains to be explored in order to surpass the stage of traditional subsistence agriculture and family character.
João Miranda noted that the agricultural of extension has never been implemented even in colonial period, as the priority was centred on the coffee production.
According to him, this process caused many difficulties in terms of food security of the local populations.
According to the chief of executive, the local residents have never showed concern about the agricultural diversification to strengthening diet.
João Miranda defended the need of the State to work toward the creation of the practice of diversified agriculture and animals.
Bengo has a population estimated at 263, 599 inhabitants, mostly peasants distributed in six municipalities.
