The South Mesa Agricultural Conference is planned for Lamesa on Jan. 23 at Forrest Park Community Center in Dawson County.
The conference, which focuses on government regulation and policies regarding agriculture, will be hosted by Texas Agrilife Extension. Information on dryland farming of crops like cotton, grain, sorghum and peanuts will also be available. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the program starts at 8 — the registration fee is $45 and lunch will be served.
■ First United Methodist Church in Lamesa met for a groundbreaking ceremony on Jan. 6. After asbestos abatement work is done on the former church it will be demolished. Once the former church is demolished and cleared construction will begin on the new 7,872-square-foot facility.
