TANZANIA is hosting a three-day Southern African Confederation of Agricultural Unions (SACAU) Regional Conference set to start on Monday in Dar es Salaam.

The conference under the theme "Financing African Agriculture" is being organised by Agricultural Council of Tanzania (ACT) in collaboration with SACAU.

ACT Executive Director, Ms Janet Bitegeko, told reporters in city the conference has attracted about 200 participants from 14 Southern Africa Development Cooperation (SADC) countries and some representatives from regional agriculture organisations from other parts of Africa.

"Preparations for the big conference we are hosting for the first time in the country will, among other things, update farmer leaders on the SADC/ COMESA/EAC tripartite agreement," she said, adding that rationale and architecture will be presented and highlights of matters of interest to farmers and agribusiness.

According to Ms Bitegeko, the conference will provide data regarding the global supply and demand projections of key agricultural commodities and highlight the opportunities and threats that this could present to farmers and agribusiness.

She said the conference which would bring farmers from African continent to deliberate on topical issues will also see the launching of the SACAU Agribusiness Pilot Project in Tanzania.
