McDonnell announces grant for agriculture, forestry plan

Gov. Bob McDonnell announced a $35,000 grant Wednesday to develop a vision for agriculture and for-estry in Region 2000, under legislation sponsored by Del. Scott Garrett, R-Lynchburg.

Ten other planning grants were awarded to help localities around the state develop projects under the Governor’s Agriculture & Forestry Industries Development Fund. The Region 2000 grant will be used for a consultant to work with the planning district and local partners in developing a regional strategic plan for the agriculture and forestry components of the area’s economy.

The study will include an inventory of regional agriculture and forest assets, an analysis of its strengths and weaknesses and develop a plan that can be supported by member jurisdictions, according to the gover-nor’s announcement.

Those jurisdictions are Lynchburg and the counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford and Campbell.
