LACROSSE, Indiana — A northwestern Indiana school is reviving its hands-on agricultural science program for the upcoming school year, joining a growing trend.
LaCrosse High School Principal Tim Somers says agriculture is one of the professions students can go into as soon as they graduate from high school. However, the program also benefits those planning on higher education in agricultural or medical fields.
The Times of Munster reports (http://bit.ly/18k9iN3 ) LaCrosse's agriculture program debuted in 2011-12 and consisted of animal science and plant and soil studies classes. It ended when the teacher left for family reasons, but LaCrosse has hired another teacher.
Indiana Association of Agricultural Educators President Scott Johnson says the presence of agriculture in Indiana high school education is steadily growing. He says grads in agriculture education programs are highly sought after.
