BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh police started
extensive search operations in the forest areas of Morena district in the
Chambal region on Thursday after an officer attached to the state agricultural
department was reported to have been abducted allegedly by dacoits. Agriculture
Extension Officer Ramesh Jaroliya (45) posted in Mumsom in Morena district
mysteriously disappeared on June 12 after he left his residence for office. A
phone call from an anonymous caller to his son on Thursday afternoon confirmed
he has been abducted and would be released only after the payment of a ransom
of Rs 15 lakh.
At 1 pm on Thursday, Ramesh Jaroliya's son
Pradeep received an anonymous call. The voice over the phone said: Your father
has been abducted and is in our custody. Arrange for Rs 15 lakh to pay as
ransom or prepare for devastating consequences.''
Jarotiya has been missing from Tuesday
morning after he left his residence in Kolaras, 50 km from Morena town, on his
motorbike at 9 am. He was scheduled to go to his office in Mumsom, 10 km away.
But this distance from home to office was through the forests of Pahargarh,
often frequented by Chambal dacoits. This is also the region bordering
with the districts of Gwalior, Shivpuri and the state of Rajasthan.
The agricultural officer did not reach his
workplace that morning and he did not return home either. His family went
looking for him on Wednesday but failed to trace him. A missing persons report
was registered at the local Pargar police station but the police
still did not suspect an abduction case.
Family members went into the forests of
Phargarh looking for Jarotiya on Thursday morning and found his motorbike.
Police reached the spot and were convinced the officer had been abducted. In
the afternoon, the abducted victim's son received the ransom call and the local
police started a search operation in the forests and adjoining areas.
Morena superintendent of police Sanjay
Kumar Singh said: A kidnapping case has been registered. We are searching
the area.''
