2 Ga. agriculture officials resign after party

ATLANTA (AP) - Two high-ranking officials at the state Agriculture Department resigned after being accused of holding a drunken party that ended in skinny dipping with a female employee.

Chief Operating Officer Billy Skaggs and Oscar Garrison, the head of the food safety division, resigned March 30. Several others were suspended without pay.

Witnesses told investigators that about 30 to 40 people attended an after-hours party held on Sept. 17 at a cabin near Lake Blackshear. The employees were in South Georgia for training.

An internal report said there was heavy drinking at a cabin used by Skaggs and Garrison and another official. Afterward, several employees took of some of their clothes and went for a swim.

Skaggs's state car was later found damaged, though it was not clear how it happened.
