Sustainable Agriculture Workshop and Farm Tour set for Milford

Southeastern Nebraska livestock producers, farmers and beginning farmers are invited to attend a sustainable agriculture workshop and farm tour on Saturday, Dec. 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Milford. The free workshop, hosted by the Center for Rural Affairs will be held at the Webermeier Library and the farm tour will follow at West Blue Farm, 146 County Rd 1900, Milford.

The workshop will address diversified farming, sustainable agriculture and creating successful partnerships between beginning and existing farmers.

Speakers include local farmer Don Jirsa who will speak on managing his intensive livestock grazing system.

An afternoon tour of West Blue Farm will provide a close-up look at how one farm has incorporated direct and niche marketing into their operation. Dave and Deb Welsch and family raise beef, poultry and organic crops on their farm south of Milford.

“This workshop will be beneficial for anyone who wants to learn about sustainable farming practices and build solid working relationships with farming partners,” said Virginia Meyer, rural organizer at the Center for Rural Affairs.

A free lunch will be provided to workshop participants at noon.

To participate, RSVP by Thursday, Nov. 29 by calling or emailing Virginia Meyer (402) 687-2103 ext. 1014 or virginiam@cfra.org.
