Farmers to get seed testing, certification facility

FAISALABAD: The University of Agriculture Faisalabad will provide seed testing and certification facility to farmers to ensure biotechnology seed effectiveness, said UAF Vice-Chancellor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan.
Chairing a meeting of the board of directors of United States Department of Agriculture Endowment Fund for UAF here on Tuesday, he said that the endowment fund had generated technology transfer activities. He said that an exhibition centre was being constructed for showcasing modern technologies. He said that the UAF had launched FM radio trough the fund. Dr Iqrar Khan lauded the USDA for providing financial support to the scientific community to cope with the challenges being faced by the agriculture sector. He said that the biomass preparation machine would be developed and fabricated at the UAF and later this technology would be transferred to manufacturing sector for the promotion of renewable energy.
KILLERS GET LIFE TERM: Additional Sessions Judge Malik Khalid Mehmood on Tuesday convicted an accused in a murder case registered with Dijkot police station.
The court awarded life imprisonment and Rs 100,000 fine to Dewan Ali of Chak 325/GB, Toba Tek Singh, and acquitted two sub-inspectors Nazakat Ali and Muhammad Aslam and Munir Ahmad, Ijaz Asad and Khawar, giving them the benefit of the doubt. The prosecution said that the convict had killed Adnan over a money dispute some months ago.
