The students demanded restructuring of the agricultural engineering service cadre in light of other engineering cadres of the state and create more posts to recruit the fresh agricultural engineering graduates. The protesters demanded creation of additional posts under Directorate of Horticulture, Directorate of Soil Conservation and Watershed Mission. They also sought appointment of one agricultural engineer in each block under panchayati raj deaprtment to undertake the rural development activities of District Rural Development Agencies (DRDAs).
The students also demanded creation of separate Directorate of Agriculture Engineering in Odisha on the lines of similar directorates in Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Assam, Manipur and Sikkim.
