Haiti - Agriculture : 410 million Gourdes for agricultural infrastructure works


Thursday, the President Michel Martelly, went to Saint-Marc, especially in the 5th communal section of "Salée Flood Way", where he officially launched important works of agricultural infrastructure, consisting to the drain cleaning in this locality and its extension of 9 kms. This work, which will cost 410 million Gourdes to the Haitian Gourdes, are designed to protect the agricultural production, houses and cattle in Grande Saline and the 5th section of Saint-Marc in particular against flooding.

"In May 2012, during my visit in Timonnette, for the inauguration of a rice plant, I promised to work on the issue of 'Salée Flood Way'. Today, that promise becomes a reality with the launch of clearing works," declared the President Martelly in front of hundreds of farmers in the region, in the presence of Agronomy Jacques Thomas, Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development (MARNDR), Senator Jean Willy Jean-Baptiste, of deputues Gracia Delva (Marchand Dessalines) and Altès Toussaint (Saint-Marc), the Mayor of Saint-Marc, Jean Rony Eugène and other personalities of theDepartmental delegation of Artibonite and the Agency for the Development of the Artibonite Valley (ODVA), among others.Built prior over 5 kms, this agricultural infrastructure, which allows draining 5,000 ha of land will be extended in a first time of 4 kms during the drought period, then 5 kms in a second time. It is the firm "Représentation S.A." that will execute these works under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture.
"The clearing of 'Salée Flood Way' is a victory for the 5th communal section of Saint-Marc," rejoiced Paul Luccé, a farmer, that took the opportunity to present to the Head of State the list of grievances of this communal section.

Meanwhile, road infrastructure work are well underway in Saint-Marc. The Mayor Eugène is satisfied and congratulated the Administration Martelly-Lamothe for its multiple efforts. For his part, the Deputy Altès Toussaint, welcomed the launch of the construction of a football field and a public square in the city. In electricity, the money is already available to provide the city of Saint Marc with 5 additional megawatts.

In regard to agriculture, the objective of the Administration Martelly is to strengthen the irrigation system and boost agricultural production, by accompanying actively the farmers mainly through a system of agricultural credit. The Head of State has asked all state officials to work very hard to serve the Haitian people, plenty, which expects many of its leaders.

In addition, during the visit of the Head of State, a thousand mothers have been registered in the National Social Assistance program "Ede pèp" and 4,000 meals have been distributed to the Saint-Marcois within the framework of mobile canteen program.
