Farmers advised to follow rain spell before irrigating crops

Farmers should keep in view the expected rain spell before irrigating their crops across the agricultural plains of the country. "The upcoming rain is beneficiary for all Rabi crops," the Met Office said in its farmers' advisory, suggesting that the wheat crop was growing its shoots.

"Farmers of irrigated/Barani areas are advised to remove weeds from the fields, so that the present soil moisture may fully be utilised," it said, urging the farmers to remove weeds from their standing crops to help grow the yield. It also warned the farmers of a significant loss of production from unwanted plants growing in the standing crop. It suggested that the farmers may attain operation to weed out the unwanted plants through weedicides and manually.

It said that the mostly cold and dry weather was expected in Punjab till February 10. It forecast a light rainfall in the most parts of the province till February 5. In Sindh, it said mostly dry weather expected in most parts of the province of with light to moderate rain in Karachi and Thatta till February 5.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Met Office predicted mainly cold and cloudy weather with light to moderate rainfall (with light snowfall over the hills) till February 5. It said that mainly cold and cloudy weather was expected in most parts of Balochistan with light to moderate rain (with light snowfall over the hills) till February 10.

It said that mainly cold and dry weather is expected in most parts of Kashmir, however, rain and thunderstorm (with snowfall over the hills) was expected in most parts of the valley till February 5.
