Global Forum on Food, Agriculture

A forum that seeks an international commitment to eradicate the most basic of mankind – food security – the Global Forum on Food and Agriculture is held January 17-19, 2013, during International Green Week in Berlin, Germany.

The event has for its theme “Responsible Investments in the Agri-Food Sector – A Key Factor for Food Security and Development.” It brings together representatives from industry, science, and civil society, and provides a platform for talks and meetings on the future of the global agri-food industry.

Civilization began with agriculture. When our ancestors began to settle and grow their own food, human society was forever changed. Communities began to flourish and so did knowledge, the arts, and the technological sciences. In many nations, agricultural production has increased, food purchasing power has risen, and diets have improved.

Social systems and attitudes contribute to inadequacies in food production, transportation, storage, and distribution. With an expanding world population, intensifying demands on agricultural resources and a growing recognition that the agri-food may not be sustainable, the forum is giving calling attention to the processes of development that aim to strengthen policies and actions for agricultural production and food security.

We congratulate the organizers and participants of the Global Forum On Food and Agriculture led by German Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Consumer Protection Minister Ilse Agner, the Berlin Senate and Office of the Governing Mayor headed by Klaus Wowereit, Department of Economics and Technology Head Juliane von Freisen, Department of Science, Research, and Culture Head Adrienne Goehler, and Messe Berlin Chief Executive Officer Dr. Christian Goke, for their efforts to call for action to tackle the root causes of food insecurity. CONGRATULATIONS AND MABUHAY!
