Agriculture scholarships


MANITOWOC — The Manitowoc County UW-Agriculture Alumni Association has awarded eight scholarships totaling $5,550 to students pursuing agriculture-related degrees at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, UW-Platteville, UW-Stevens Point or UW-Madison.
The following students were selected to receive first-year $750 scholarships: Rachel Hartlaub from Howards Grove High School, who plans to attend UW-Madison to major in dairy science; Zachary Henning from Kiel High School, who plans to attend UW-Platteville to major in ag business; Brad Jaeger from Kiel High School, who plans to attend UW-Madison to major in agricultural and applied economics; and Brent Levash from Brillion High School, who plans to attend UW-Stevens Point to major in soil and waste resources.
Matthew Fidler from Manitowoc Lutheran High School was selected to receive a first-year $300 scholarship for Farm and Industry Short Course.
The following students were selected to receive post-high school $750 scholarships: Jonathon Buchner, UW-Platteville, soil and crop science; James Downey, UW-Madison, biochemistry; and Taylor Wittmus, UW-River Falls, dairy science.
Farm Progress scholarship winner announced
MANITOWOC — The Manitowoc County Farm Progress Days Scholarship Committee has announced that Rachel Hartlaub, 12332 County Line Road, Cleveland, will receive the Manitowoc County Farm Progress Days Donald R. Peterson Scholarship for 2012.
The $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a graduating high school senior from Manitowoc County who is planning to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison, UW-Platteville, UW-River Falls or UW-Stevens Point to pursue a career in the agricultural life sciences or the natural resources area.
Hartlaub will graduate from Howards Grove High School this spring and has been accepted to UW-Madison where she plans to major in dairy science.
Application forms for next year's scholarship are available from high school guidance counselors and agri-business teachers, the Manitowoc County UW-Extension office at (920) 683-4169, and the Manitowoc County UW-Extension website, manitowoc.uwex.edu.
